Planning a Fall Wedding?
Autumn and winter weddings are just as delightful as spring and summer. One of the greatest things about the fall is the colorful foliage. Of course, you can’t really see it if you have your fall matrimony indoors. However, some brides like to steer clear of having a beautiful autumn wedding because of the weather. The cold weather shouldn’t deter you from having your dream outdoor autumn wedding. Instead, prepare for the chill by thinking ahead. Find out how to plan a fall wedding.
September Average high: 82°F; average low: 63°F
October Average high: 73°F; average low: 51°F
November Average high: 63°F; average low: 42°F
The season in which you choose to host your wedding can determine how many of the details are handled. 14 percent of weddings take place in September and 12 percent take place in October, making them popular months for marriages.
If you are planning a fall wedding, consider using autumn wedding colors, harvest and leaves to inspire and add to the magic of the day. Seasonal elements can be used in a dramatic or subtle way. You must also plan for practical details, like weather, seasonal flowers, seasonal decorations, uplighting decor, and food choices.
Professional Wedding DJs, Photographers, Planners, and venues can be booked up to a year in advance. Keep this in mind when planning out your wedding schedule. Time can fly by sooner than you think if you are unprepared for your wedding celebration, so carefully prioritize your schedule from the most important to the least important on your "To Do" list.
1. Choose your location.
In autumn, the location may affect the date of your wedding. If the temperature is too cool for you in October, you may choose to have the wedding in September. You may also choose to plan a destination wedding in a warmer locale, which will make your wedding checklist largely different from a fall or harvest-inspired day.
2. Set your date.
Once you have chosen your location, do some research to find the time of the month with the best weather. Consider the convenience of travel in inclement weather for your wedding guests.
3. Choose a venue.
Common fall wedding reception venues include barns, lodges, and orchards. Although you may want to say your vows outside, receptions should have an indoor location out of the cold weather.
- Many venues are booked up to a year in advance. Keep this in mind during your wedding planning schedule.
- Have a backup plan in case inclement weather occurs. Having the ceremony or reception outside can be hard for guests if it is cold or rainy. Consider having it inside and taking photos with the wedding party outside. You can also invest in heat lamps and tents.
4. Create fall-themed wedding invitations.
Most brides and grooms want unique invitations, and one of the best ways to enhance your fall wedding is to include fall motifs, such as trees, falling leaves, pumpkins, and orchards. Look online for pre-made fall templates or consult with a wedding invitation business to personalize the look of the cards, envelopes, RSVPs and save the dates.
5. Choose autumn colors for your wedding.
Working with the season's colors instead of against them will provide interesting choices for bouquets, place settings, dresses, and ties. Consider fall wedding colors such as burnt orange, chocolate brown, burgundy and forest green. Add ambiance to your inside wedding ceremony and reception decor with autumn colored uplighting throughout the venue. Consider using amber, orange, red or green. You can also mix and match the fall colors!
6. Ask your professional wedding DJ about uplighting packages.
Nothing looks quite as elegant as a room decorated completely with professional uplighting. Uplighting is still considered a new trend in wedding decorations for venues that can also be provided by Boss Playa Productions DJs. Make the ambiance to your wedding decor stand out by including uplighting to your wedding package.
In the fall, Charlotte and surrounding areas are more likely to get rain, be windy or cold.
- Make sure you have a shorter dress or bustle for your longer gown. You don't want a light-colored wedding dress to hang into the mud on a rainy day.
- Choose shorter or tea-length dresses for your bridesmaids, so they don't have to worry about mud. Choose shoes with closed toes so you and your bridesmaids can walk down the aisle easily if the ground is wet and clumpy.
- Wear your hair up, in case of wind. Make sure your stylist uses extra hairspray and pins to keep everything in place.
- Wear waterproof makeup. While most brides do this to ensure there aren't smudges if they cry, you may want to pay extra attention to it on a rainy day. Keep backup makeup with you, for quick touch ups.
8. Create harvest-themed place settings.
A fall wedding can use charming details like salvaged wood, twine, canning jars, baskets of fresh apples and old farm equipment. In-season pumpkins or maize will also create a festive atmosphere. If you don't want to go with a harvest focus, use in-season flowers like sunflowers, anemones, dahlias, mums or asters. If you have a very formal wedding, include 1 small detail, or go all out with bales of hay.
9. Choose a meal with seasonal ingredients.
Fall menus can be even more delicious than summer ones because there is so much food in season. Consider serving hearty vegetables, turkey, butternut squash soup, rustic bread, hot cocoa, hard cider, caramel apples, apple pies and pumpkin spice cake.
10. Allow some room for flexibility on your wedding day.
You may have to change a few things because of weather, so try to get yourself mentally prepared ahead of time. The exciting, festive atmosphere will make your wedding memorable for you, your new husband and your guests.
